OEM & ODM Services For Your Protective Covers.
TL;DR: Winter does not attack your vehicle in one way, so one cover does not answer it. Snow load, road salt, freeze-thaw cycling, low-angle UV and rodents are five different problems. This is the tiered protection matrix JK Covers uses — from a single-layer non-woven dust sheet to a 250gsm PVC outdoor cover and a hail-tested multi-layer build — plus the full change-of-season checklist for cars, tires, boats, bikes, grills and everything else you are about to store.
The damage is cumulative and mostly invisible until spring.
That is why "buy a cover" is not a winter plan. Match the barrier to the exposure.
Five real exposure levels, and the build that answers each one. All of these are standard builds in the JK material library — this is not a marketing ladder, it is a materials decision.
| T1 — Indoor, dust only | Single-layer non-woven, full elastic hem | Dust, light scuffs in a garage | Any water. Not for outdoor use |
| T2 — Indoor, premium paint | Soft brush-backing fabric; plush velvet or stretch knit | Scratch-free, breathable, anti-static cover for luxury and sports cars | Rain, snow, UV |
| T3 — Outdoor, mild climate | PEVA with UV coating | Light to moderate rain, UV, foldable and lightweight | Sustained heavy rain. Water-resistant, not 100% waterproof |
| T4 — Outdoor, real winter | 250gsm PVC with soft cotton backing | 100% waterproof, heavy rain, snow, intense UV; 3–5 year outdoor lifespan | Hailstone impact |
| T5 — Extreme / hail | Multi-layer padded anti-hail build | Hail impact tested to golf-ball size, water-resistant, UV-blocking; impact-absorbing layers | This is a bulkier cover — not a daily-use item |
Two notes worth more than the table:
Cotton backing is not a detail. A 250gsm PVC shell is 100% waterproof and provides the winter barrier, but the layer against the paint is the soft cotton backing. That is what keeps "waterproof" from becoming "waterproof and scratched".
Price is not the same axis as protection. PEVA comes in roughly 30–40% below PVC. That is the right choice for a mild-winter market and the wrong choice for a Great Lakes winter. Specify by climate, not by budget alone.
Work down this list once. It is ordered by how much the asset costs to replace.
1. Vehicles left outside
A T4 build (250gsm PVC, cotton backing) with elastic hem plus tie-down straps and buckle. Confirm the cover is sized to the vehicle — on this site sizing runs off 300+ vehicle templates rather than a generic "large". If hail is a real risk in your region, that is a T5 build instead.
2. Wheels and tires
Tire covers, or tire armor where corrosion and animals are a factor. A tire armor build is specified as anti-corrosion, dog-urine resistant, waterproof and UV-proof, and is quoted as extending tire life by 2–3 years. Storing a set of wheels outdoors without a barrier is the cheapest mistake on this list.
3. Boats and marine
Boat cover, plus boat engine cover and propeller cover. Snow load is the argument for not improvising with a tarp: a tarp collects, a fitted cover sheds. Center console and console box covers matter more in winter than summer because that is where water pools and freezes.
4. Bikes, e-bikes and motorcycles
These are the items most often left "just for a few weeks" and then abandoned until March. A fitted bike or motorcycle cover is the difference between a spring clean and a spring rebuild.
5. Grills and outdoor furniture
Fabric, not metal, is what fails first. A fitted grill cover beats a generic sheet because it does not pool water on the lid.
6. Interior, small items and luggage
Car organizer, seat covers and luggage covers. This is the tier most operators skip — and the one that determines whether the interior still looks new when the season turns.
7. Anything with a battery or a fuel tank
Not a cover problem, but put it on the same checklist so it actually happens: charge, stabilise, and cover.
A cover that is folded away wet is a cover you will replace next autumn. Three rules:
For distributors and brands building a winter range, this is also the moment to check that your packaging story matches the season — a storage bag is a sellable feature in October and an invisible one in June.
Q: Can I use one cover for both indoor and outdoor?
Use a T4 or T5 build indoors if you want, but never use a T1 indoor dust cover outdoors. Single-layer non-woven is a dust barrier, not a weather barrier.
Q: Is PEVA enough for snow?
PEVA is water-resistant with a UV coating and is specified for light-to-moderate rain. For snow and sustained winter weather, the 250gsm PVC build is the correct answer.
Q: Will a waterproof cover trap moisture and rust the car?
That is a function of the backing and the fit, not the shell. A 250gsm PVC cover uses a cotton backing and a fitted cut with elastic hem and tie-downs; the failure mode to avoid is a loose, non-breathable sheet that flaps and holds condensation.
Q: How do I know what size to order?
For OEM/ODM programs we fit from 300+ vehicle templates and 500+ patterns rather than a size chart. Send make, model and year. Stock MOQ starts from 50 pcs on standard materials.
Q: Do these covers carry a protection rating?
JK product pages list an L-level protection rating for coverage and material class. For a specific program, ask for the build sheet rather than comparing rating labels across suppliers — the rating only means something alongside the material and the backing.
Most of the winter damage we get asked about in spring was preventable in October with one correct decision about the barrier layer.
